Lead Service Line Inventory
October 09, 2024
Halfway Carroll Water System Members,
This letter is to inform you of the new Lead Service Line Inventory (LSLI) requirements set by the state to note and inform you of any Lead Service lines in our water system that need to be replaced. These are pipes made of lead that connect a water main to a home or building. They are typically the main source of lead in water from homes with lead service lines. Lead Service lines can be a health threat. Lead can damage the brain, kidneys, and nervous system, and can cause learning and behavioral problems. Children and pregnant women are most at risk. Louisiana banned the use of lead in plumbing for drinking water in 1988. In 2013, the lead content of pipes, fittings, and fixtures was further reduced.
Since the state has mandated that all water systems inspect and report their supply line materials, we have been working hard to get this done. I have implemented a rule that line materials be noted when any excavations are done during line repairs, meters or meter box replacements and other work done on our system. We have also physically dug and checked every meter box in the system to determine lines into meter and out of meter on customers’ side.
As per the original build map drawings of our water system and all the investigation we’ve done, I am glad to report to you that we have not found any Lead Lines in our system. We will continue to be on guard for any lead lines or connecters out there, but according to the system records no lead was used in the building of Halfway Carroll Water System. We do have records of our findings, and you can obtain a hard copy by contacting use at 318-751-5007 or send us a message at halfwaycarrollwatersystem.com .
